Agriculture continues to play an integral role in the National economy, contributing BWP368.40 million to Botswana’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in Q1 2018. Investment in agriculture remains paramount as we work to diversify the economy from mineral dependence. Such was the motivation behind Stanbic Bank Botswana’s sponsorship for this year’s Ghanzi Show.
The Ghanzi Show is amongst the hallmark shows in Botswana’s agriculture show season, and was this year held from 4-8th July 2018. The Bank sponsored in excess of P60,000.00 towards the prizegiving gala dinner, valuing the role the Show, and indeed agricultural practice, plays for Batswana.
Said Mr. Calistas Chijoro, Stanbic Bank Botswana Head of Business Banking, “It is a true honour to be amongst the sponsors of this year’s Ghanzi Show and we thank the organising committee for welcoming us. Agriculture has potential to play an even greater role in our National Economy, and we believe, as Stanbic Bank Botswana, that through concerted effort, great focus, and strategic planning, we will make greater strides in growing commercial agriculture in Botswana. This could potentially see growth of SMMEs in this sector, as well as wield a significant impact on our GDP. Our sponsorship of the Show is born from such commitment, and we hope to see great, sustainable growth in this space in the future.
The Ghanzi Show seeks to create a platform for appreciation of Botswana’s agricultural talent and bounty, promote greater commercialization of farming activities, and provide a healthily competitive environment amongst farmers showcasing their breeds and crops. The theme of this year’s Show was Sustainable Economic Diversification Beyond 50 Years Through Green Technology. The Show is now in its 44th year, having first welcomed visitors in 1974. It attracts up to 6,000 visitors and sees in excess of 250 exhibitors, largely SMMEs.
Concluded Mr. Thuso Mackenzie, Ghanzi Show Vice Chairperson, “We are honoured to have welcomed Stanbic Bank as a sponsor for this year’s show gala dinner. Ours is an important National event which attracts local and international individuals of diverse cultures. The support of the Bank helps us deliver on our mandate even further, and for this we are grateful.”
